After all, with Sony and Marvel seemingly building their own super-hero video-game universe, DC probably doesn’t want to be left in the dust again. Superman video-games have had a pretty checkered past but a high-quality, big budget, AAA Superman game could bring the original superhero out of the wilderness and into the modern gaming world. If DC is serious about developing the “Arkhamverse” into a wider video-game universe, Superman needs to join the franchise next. To date, Rocksteady has developed every “Arkhamverse” game except the spin-off prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins. I’m the first to warn others about hyping potential announcements ahead of E3, but alongside a wave of rumors over. Rocksteady, the studio behind the Batman trilogy of Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight, may very well be getting ready to announce a game starring another DC icon. Rocksteady, the creator of the Batman: Arkham franchise, was initially rumored to be working on a Superman-themed game, which they later debunked. What is unclear at the moment is whether or not Rocksteady is the sole studio in charge of the “Arkhamverse”. Signs Point to Superman Game from Rocksteady at E3. Rocksteady Studios announced Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in August 2020. He’s going to be introduced into the Arkhamverse for the first time in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League next year and so a AAA Superman game would make perfect sense to come next. With DC building up the Arkhamverse, Superman is the natural next fit to receive his own game. No matter the reason for cancelling Rocksteady’s unannounced Superman project, hopefully another studio has been hard at work on their own version of a game featuring The Man of Steel. It’s rumored that Rocksteady began work on a Superman game a few years ago but that Warner Bros, for whatever reason, canned the project.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, also developed by Rocksteady, is even set in the same “Arkhamverse” as those games. With the success of the Batman: Arkham series, DC, and developer Rocksteady, have naturally been focused on those games.
